Bird Watching at the Outdoor Classroom

January 23, 2018

Outdoor Ed classes at MSS participated in Project FeederWatch, a research and education project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology that helps scientists study changes in the distribution and abundance of feeder birds over time. Students practiced bird identification and binocular use needed for counting at our count site, the Outdoor Classroom. Last week the official count took place! Students will soon submit their data to Project FeederWatch.

We wish to thank naturalists, Stacy Gray and Lily Jonsek (also MSS parents) and Daniel Mills, from the Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park for helping to facilitate this project and for sharing their knowledge, enthusiasm, and educational birds (Mississippi kite, screech owl, and barn owl) with us!
